My name is Karen Winson, but I am better known as Kay. I am married and have 2 children, Edward, who occasionally helps out in the Nursery, and Felicity who is my Assistant Manager. I am also ably supported on a day-to-day basis by my husband Malcolm.
In 1986 I left an office job to become a registered childminder during which time I also ran the local Pre-School.
I loved working with children so much I decided to open my own nursery school in the spring of 2000.
Running the nursery is not a job to me because it is such a rewarding experience as I enjoy my day as much as the children.
I take every opportunity to train to improve my knowledge and expertise and that of my staff, and to keep up with continuous developments in early years education.
At present A.B.D.N. employs 8 staff to look after 29 children each session. This is a small, personal nursery where all the staff know and work with all the children. This also means that each staff member is known by every child and their families, creating a warm, family environment.
Most of the staff are qualified to NVQ level 3, with the others studying to gain the qualification. They all regularly attend training courses to gain further skills and qualifications. They all have up to date Paediatric 1st aid qualifications.
